Savage River Shooting Range is a public, unsupervised outdoor facility managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources within Savage River State Forest. It offers 10 covered shooting stations with distances from 25 to 100 yards, primarily for rifle and pistol use.

Know before you go

  • Shooters must purchase a daily ($5) or annual ($25) permit using cash and a self-registration green envelope at the physical kiosk prior to setting up gear; lack of a physical permit results in citations or range ejection by Maryland Natural Resources Police.
  • Shooting is strictly limited to the provided concrete benches with exactly one shooter permitted per bench; standing, kneeling, or sharing a lane with an observer is prohibited and subjects the user to immediate reprimand or permit revocation.
  • Spent brass casings must be separated and deposited specifically at the north end of the pavilion building, while shotgun hulls must be placed in separate trash receptacles.
